ABOUT EUGENE “GINO ROCK” BRANTLEY
Eugene “Gino Rock” Brantley, a native of Estill, South Carolina, stands as a dedicated candidate for Richmond County Sheriff. His journey into law enforcement is a testament to his unwavering commitment to community service and his belief in the power of genuine human connections.
Gino’s early years were marked by his passion for football, which he pursued at various levels, from high school to college and even professionally. He walked on to the team at Savannah State and proved his worth by earning a full-ride scholarship for his remaining eligibility. He was chosen as Team MVP his senior year. It was during his formative years as linebacker on the football field that he learned the value of teamwork, discipline, and determination—qualities that would shape his future career.
After college, Gino embarked on a career outside of athletics, initially working for a construction company at the Savannah River Site. However, his true calling lay in community development and public service. He played a pivotal role in founding Estill’s first Recreation Department and served as its Director. It was here that he honed his leadership skills, overseeing programs and managing people, with a particular focus on youth services and senior citizens. Gino’s dedication to establishing the department included pioneering youth sports programs in Estill, an initiative that still bears fruit today. His impact on the lives of the young people he worked with during this time is a testament to his enduring commitment to community betterment.
Notably, Gino maintained lasting connections with some of the students he mentored during his time at the Recreation Department, a testament to the profound influence he had on their lives.

In the year 2000, Gino’s path led him to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, marking the beginning of a distinguished law enforcement career and has spanned over two decades. He started as a deputy, but his dedication and exceptional abilities soon led him to the special operations division. Over his 16-year tenure at the Sheriff’s Office, Gino played a crucial role in various specialized units, including the Housing Unit and the Rapid Response Riot Team. His unique approach involved embedding himself in the community, taking time to play basketball with children and engaging with residents. This approach cultivated deep-rooted relationships, to the extent that some individuals would only allow Gino to approach and apprehend them without incidents.
In 2017, Gino took on a new role at the Marshal’s Office, where he was soon promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In this capacity, he handled evictions and served as an officer in accountability court, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to justice reform. Throughout his career, Gino consistently prioritized treating all individuals with respect and dignity, regardless of their circumstances.
Gino’s core belief is that “It’s important to remember all people are human and deserve respect, no matter what they’re going through. If you give respect, you’ll get it in return.” He firmly understands that the first step in policing a community is establishing a relationship with its residents, acknowledging that it’s not always easy, but it’s an essential part of the job that he genuinely enjoys.
